Taiwan eSIM: Korean Number and Data Roaming Checklist
A Taiwan eSIM can carry your travel data while your Korean number remains available for the services your home carrier supports. Before paying, decide which line will handle maps and messages, which number you need for calls or verification, and whether your Korean-market phone can keep that configuration active. These decisions matter more than choosing the largest allowance.
Taiwan eSIM and Korean-carrier roaming: separate the contracts
An eSIM is a way to install a mobile plan; roaming describes how a service operates abroad. The Taiwan options discussed here use Roaming. Buying them does not activate a roaming package on your Korean account or transfer your Korean number to the travel provider. You manage the two services separately, including their charges and support.
The selected Taiwan product lists Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa as network providers and Singapore as its IP exit. Read that as product information, rather than a promise of a particular speed. Its coverage is Taiwan. A Singapore routing label does not add Singapore to the destinations you can visit with that package. If your journey includes another country, compare its coverage separately.
Compare Taiwan eSIM total-data options before checkout
The following examples were checked on 14 October 2026. They belong to the same Taiwan total-data product and offer different allowances over a 30-day validity period. They are options to compare, not a claim that every traveller needs one of these amounts. Open the Taiwan total-data product to confirm the selected option and its purchase information.
| Total allowance | Validity | Question to ask yourself |
|---|---|---|
| 5 GB | 30 days | Will most large downloads stay on Wi-Fi? |
| 10 GB | 30 days | Do photo uploads and background activity need more room? |
| 20 GB | 30 days | Will sharing or video add substantial consumption? |
A longer validity period does not mean you must stay for 30 days or receive a fresh allowance each day. The data is one total pool. Review your habits: hotel Wi-Fi for backups, maps while walking, social uploads and any laptop connection. Reduce automatic cloud backups if they would spend data you intended for navigation, and leave reserve for a changed flight or route.
These examples have validity marked as starting on use. Follow the delivered instructions for the actual start and activation procedure; do not substitute a universal rule about QR scanning, registration or the first network connection. They list hotspot sharing as supported, but a blank limit field is not an unlimited-sharing guarantee. Top-up is not offered for these examples. Plan the original allowance carefully and confirm the options available if you run out.
Check the full Korean-market phone model
Look at the complete model identifier, purchase region, software and carrier lock before buying. The Apple travel eSIM guidance explains why using another carrier requires an unlocked iPhone. Check the actual device, including an imported handset purchased in Korea, rather than relying on the product family name.
For Galaxy, Samsung's Korean support information describes adding an eSIM through SIM manager on supported devices. Verify that your specific phone has the relevant menu. Also check the combination you need: a physical Korean SIM plus a travel eSIM differs from keeping two eSIMs active. Stored profiles and simultaneously active lines are not the same thing.
Use the compatibility checker before checkout and resolve an unclear model or lock with the manufacturer or carrier. If someone is buying for a companion, check that companion's phone as well. A successful installation on your phone does not establish compatibility for another device.
Give your Taiwan eSIM the data job
Name the lines clearly, for example “Korea home” and “Taiwan travel”, before you are standing in an arrivals hall. At the covered destination, select the travel line for mobile data and turn its data roaming ON as instructed for the purchased Roaming product. Turn data roaming OFF on the Korean home line and disable automatic mobile-data switching.
Apple's Dual SIM guide distinguishes the chosen data network from other line settings. Review the calls and messages defaults separately. Switching data off does not, by itself, shut down every voice or SMS service on an enabled Korean line. Keeping it available can still involve carrier conditions and charges.
The Taiwan examples do not support incoming or outgoing calls or SMS. If you need a Taiwanese number, confirm an appropriate separate service before purchase. For Korean banking codes, ask your Korean carrier about overseas SMS support and your account conditions; the travel data plan cannot guarantee receipt. Check that KakaoTalk is signed in and keep a backup contact method and meeting details.
Arrival checks and the journey home
Before installing your Taiwan eSIM, retain the order email and read the selected option's instructions over a stable connection. The usage guide can help with installation. After arrival, test a small web page with Wi-Fi temporarily off so you can see which data line is working. Then restore your preferred Wi-Fi setting.
If data fails, check the enabled travel line, data selection, its roaming setting, coverage and validity before changing unrelated settings. Refer to any supplied APN instructions rather than inventing values, and contact support with your model and error message. Do not delete the installed profile as a first troubleshooting step. On return to Korea, select your Korean line for data again and review roaming settings rather than assuming the phone restored everything.
Finish the Taiwan eSIM purchase check with the exact option, phone model, validity start, hotspot conditions and home-carrier requirements understood. Save the product details that apply to your order. That gives you a concrete plan for travel data and your Korean number before departure.
